ORIGINS AND ETYMOLOGY

Astro-English: from Astronese, the word tumefaction is used to denote “that which is swollen” or “that which is expanding”; use of the word great denotes a significant event or phenomena that is universally relevant; in the context of outer space, this phrase therefore means “the inevitable swelling of the Sun to the point at which is will engulf Earth.”
